The Rolex Los Angeles Sail Grand Prix electrified the waters of San Pedro, California, on March 15-16, 2025, marking the fourth event of SailGP’s 2025 season. This high-octane sailing competition featured 12 national teams racing cutting-edge, 50-foot hydrofoiling catamarans capable of reaching speeds up to 60 mph.
The event took place at the Port of Los Angeles’ Outer Harbor, with the racecourse situated near Berth 46 at 3011 Miner St, San Pedro, CA 90731. Spectators gathered in the SailGP Race Stadium, which opened daily at 12:45 PM, with races occurring between 2:00 PM and 3:30 PM.
In a thrilling conclusion, NorthStar Canada, helmed by Giles Scott, secured their first victory of the 2025 season. Despite not winning any fleet races during the weekend, their consistent performance propelled them ahead of formidable teams from Australia and New Zealand in the winner-takes-all final.
The U.S. SailGP Team, led by driver Taylor Canfield and Newport Beach native Peter Kinney, showcased their skills on home waters, aiming to capitalize on the support of local fans. The competition was fierce, with teams navigating one of the tightest racecourses on the SailGP calendar, demanding precision and strategic prowess.
Beyond the on-water action, the event significantly boosted the local economy. The previous SailGP event in Los Angeles, held in July 2023, generated an estimated economic impact of $6.9 million for the city.
